Wooi Leong is Senior Executive Director, Global Energy of Surbana Jurong Group (https://surbanajurong.com/) and an Exco member of SMEC (smec.com). He was leading the transformation of the Renewable & Energy business portfolio in SJ & was part of the pioneer team that setup the Global Sustainability Council for the Group. He has more than 20 years’ experience in the Energy sector, having performed roles involving leadership, strategy advisory, project delivery, technical engineering and R&D development for power & energy infrastructure & technologies, renewables, energy storage system, hydrogen, ammonia, low carbon alternatives and CCUS related projects in APAC, ME & LATAM regions. Specifically, he had led the development of GW scale solar/wind/geothermal projects integrated with GWh scale energy storage system, intercontinental HV power transmission, underground storage caverns & infrastructure, specialized industrial clusters & buildings, floating infrastructure, hydrogen & ammonia specialist energy studies & advanced research activities in cryogenic energy, carbon capture & carbon utilization technologies. He has also developed energy transition & decarbonization roadmaps for industrial clusters in UK, Malaysia (Sarawak & Johor), Indonesia, Philippines & China. He was nominated as part of Who’s Who of Engineering in Singapore in 2020.

Wooi Leong served as a Board member of the Banyan Caverns JV Company since 2014, managing the operation of Southeast Asia’s 1st UG Storage Caverns located in Jurong island, where he oversaw the conceptualization, engineering to operation and maintenance of the facility. He also sits in the Working Group Committee for Carbon Capture Utilization Sequestration (CCUS) Standards in Singapore, CCUS Singapore Industry Consortium & the BCA Green Built Environment Advisory Committee for Renewables. He received a Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Engineering degree under a university scholarship from Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He has also attended the General Management Program at Harvard Business School, Massachusetts, USA, and completed the Imperial College London - BCA: Executive Development Programme on DfMA and IDD Leadership, London.
